Nationally recognized as “one of the most beautiful villages in Italy”, is the adoptive land of Giovanni Pascoli: on Caprona Hill, in Castelvecchio, the poet’s home is open for visits.
Porte del Castello, Teatro dei Differenti, Santa Elisabetta Conservatory, and the Duomo of San Cristoforo, with its outstanding view of the Apuan Alps, are the must-see attractions of the historical town centre, known as “Barga Vecchia”.
The town, with its craft shops and small art galleries, is also a setting for important, internationally renowned musical appointments which take place during the summer: “Festival Opera Barga” (July) and “Barga Jazz Festival” (August), open-air concerts and performances directed by important maestri are a tradition in the town’s historic centre.
