It's chestnut time at Il Ciocco
Autumn is back with its colors, harvests and unmistakable flavors.
And if the second half of the month of October is the perfect time to go chestnut picking, an ideal outdoor pastime for a weekend with family and friends, this year, more than ever, the green meadows of the Living Mountain are once again carpeted with burrs and their fruits – the chestnut!
"Despite the disease that has affected these trees for the past several years (see the chestnut gall wasp) and thanks to numerous pro-health interventions and to the involvement of local government - says the agronomist Claudio Lorenzoni –, you can notice a gradual improvement of the health of our chestnut trees as you move along the territory of the Serchio Valley. Furthermore, if the intensity of the disease varies depending on the area - explains Lorenzoni –, the chestnut trees on the Il Ciocco Estate and Park prove to be less infected than elsewhere".
