The President of the Senate Honorary Citizens of Barga
The “San Cristoforo Speciale” will be awarded this year, as every year, during Barga’s patron saint festivities.
This year the award goes to Pietro Grasso, president of the Senate of
the italian Republic who, after a visit to the Giovanni Pascoli House Museum and Palazzo Mordini in the company of Senator Andrea Marcucci and Mayor Marco Bonini, received the honorary citizenship
from the municipality.
Mayor Bonini comments on the decision to bestow this award to the
second highest office in the country: “President Grasso, as prosecutor in Palermo and national Anti-Mafia prosecutor, has been a significant figure
in important investigations that have brought to justice dozens of some of the most dangerous fugitives of the “mala vita”. This is the tie with Barga and one of his most illustrious sons, Antonio Mordini: the patriot was, in
fact, one of the first statesmen in 1860 to realize the presence and invasion of the mafia and the camorra”.
