Autumn in the Serchio Valley: the chestnut and its flavours
Many are the events scheduled during the month of October in the Serchio Valley dedicated to the much-loved seasonal fruit, the chestnut!
Chetnuts in the Piazza
Tastings of the Garfagnine “polenta” (chestnut polenta, corn polenta, infarinata), typical local cured meats and cold cuts and Cascio’s sweets. In the afternoon enjoy necci, castagnaccio, bombonecci and the new wine of the harvest.
Castiglione di Garfagnana
Same as every year, the traditional October Fair is back. It’s a day of country traditions and flavours of the Garfagnana and the Apennines. For you, inviting chestnut flour-based dishes, porcini mushrooms, black truffle, roasted chestnuts and necci.
Trassilico – Gallicano
Tastings of local products along the avenues of the historical center: roasted chestnuts, necci, castagnaccio and cakes make with chestnut flour. All of these delicacies can be enjoyed together with a good glass of mulled wine and the new wine of the harvest. From 2.30pm to 7.00pm
Sunday in Town
Coreglia Antelminelli (historic center)
Starting at 3.00pm, food&wine stands and museums open for visits. A great chance to discover and take a personal tour of one of the most beautiful towns in Italy.
The perfect occasion to enjoy great food, drink good wine, buy local and artisan products at the open-air market set up along the town’s main street.
Chestnuts on the Lake
Lago di Pontecosi – Pieve Fosciana
It’s the sixth edition of the Chestnut on the lake fest with chestnut flour polenta and salted pork bone, homemade chestnut flour pasta “maccheroni”. Not to miss the necci with ricotta cheese, castagnaccio and bombonecci tastings. From 12.00pm to 7.00pm
