The Serchio Valley is in Christmas Preparation!
With a rich calendar of events, the Serchio Valley is preparing for the Christmas season.
We kick off the season with Barga in Cioccolato (December 3th and 4th) in the historic center of the town with a triumph of chocolate flavours and delicacies. With chocolatiers from all over Italy, this is your chance so savour various types of chocolate: cold, hot, traditional and spicy.
During the same weekend, Castelnuovo di Garfagnana comes alive with its traditional Christmas markets during the Castelnuovo Città della Castagna festival: tastings of local seasonal delicacies, stores open and Santa Clause for the little ones.
Castiglione di Garfagnana (December 10th and 11th) will get into the spirit with Christmas markets, entertainment and food and wine stands throughout the town.
On December 11th an evocative event is scheduled in the natural park of San Romano in Garfagnana (Waiting for Christmas in the Woods).
On December 23rd come see the interpretation of the Nativity scene and the trades of the past with the “Presepe Vivente” of Barga, animated with more than 200 people dressed in period costume, the oldest of the Serchio Valley. Villa Collemandina will present its "Presepe Vivente" on Decembere 28th.
Don’t miss the traditional appointment with the lighting of the Natalecci at Gorfigliano (Minucciano) on December 24th. It’s from time immemorial that when the evening falls on Christmas Eve, bonfires are lit hereat strategic points to be seen from all the villages of the area. These imposing structures, visible from a distance, reach considerable heights of more than 20 meters and are a complicated tangle and weave of juniper branches, collected from cleaning forest undergrowth.
