May: Monte Croce puts on its beautiful show
An immense dark green hill studded with white jonquils.
Every year, hundreds of visitors climb to the summit of Monte Croce (southern part of the Apuan Alps, Municipality of Stazzema) to witness a unique spectacle in its kind that takes place around the 20th of May, year after year.
The summit (1,312 meters above sea level) also affords a beautiful view of the Panie group of mountains.
How to reach the summit
The path is not particularly difficult. Qualified nature guides also periodically organize excursions for small- and medium-sized groups. From the Garfagnana slope, marked trails lead to the summit from the town of San Pellegrinetto as well as from Palagnana.
