The national premiere of the film The Other Side of Hope by Aki Kaurismaki will inaugurate the 2017 edition of the Lucca Film Festival and Europa Cinema, on Sunday April 2nd at the Astra cinema in Lucca (at 8:30 pm).

The 2017 edition, taking place between Lucca and Viareggio from April 2nd to 9th, features a starry red carpet with Oliver Stone, Olivier Assayas, Valeria Golino, Sergio Castellitto, Julien Temple, Cristi Puiu, Bruno Monsaingeon and Giada Colagrande.


Tributes are reserved for each of the multi-award winning actors & actresses, with film showings, prizes and meetings with the audience. Additionally, the second edition of the International Feature Films Competition, with 14 films competing from the world over in an Italian premier is scheduled, flanked by the out of competition premiers and the traditional appointment with the International Competition of Short Films.


In the “Out of competition” section, also the movie The Little Hours by Jeff Baena (Canada, USA, 2017), a North American production filmed in Serchio Valley and Garfagnana also thanks to the support of Il Ciocco and executive production by Alessandro Bertolucci’s Dublab S.r.l.

The Lucca Film Festival and Europa Cinema, chaired by Nicola Borrelli, is among the spearhead events of the shows organized and supported by the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Lucca foundation and backed – among others – by Il Ciocco Estate and Park.
