The Serchio Valley in the pink for 2015
After 11 years, the Giro d’Italia is back in the Serchio Valley! The full route of the 98th edition of the Giro d’Italia, which will take place from May 9th to the 31st, was unveiled in Milan on Monday, October 6th. It will be during the 5th stage – La Spezia – Abetone, on Wednesday, May 13th – that the Corsa Rosa will enter Tuscany.
The prestigious cycling event, organized by RCS Sport and the Gazzetta dello Sport, will pass through Piazza al Serchio, Camporgiano, Poggio, Castlenuovo Garfagnana to continue towards Castelvecchio Pascoli,
Barga, Fornaci, Fornoli, Bagni di Lucca… The 152 km climb to the
Abetone will be one of the most spectacular stages televised, with
stunning scenery and amazing landscapes.
In short, the people of the Serchio Valley and cycling buffs will have their chance to see their idols when the pink caravan passes by.
The Giro d’Italia at Il Ciocco. The Ciocco has been part of the Giro d’Italia for four times as a concluding stage:
May 27, 1974. Modena - Forte dei Marmi, the 11th stage of the Giro, has a semistage at the Ciocco. Modena – Il Ciocco was won by Josè Manuel Fuente.
May 31, 1975. The 14th stage of the 58th edition of the corsa rosa unfolds entirely inside the Ciocco (13 km), crowning Fausto Bertoglio winner of
both the uphill time trial and the Giro d’Italia.
June 2, 1976. Winner of the Porretta Terme – Il Ciocco, stage 13, is Ronny De Witte.
May 24, 1995. Pietrasanta – Il Ciocco, the 11th stage. The winner, Enrico Zaina.
