La Piazza del Ciocco: Autumn Festival
Preparations are underway for the La Piazza del Ciocco, Autumn Festival, the market which will take place on the Il Ciocco Estate on September 21st and 22nd .
The theme for the very first Ciocco Market (the first of many to come) is the Autumn season with its flavors, colors and products.
There will be more than 40 exhibitors that will be participating, many of which are from the Serchio Valley with their culinary local delights such as: the Bellandi Antica Norcineria and Vecchio Mulino with their prosciutto bazzone and local products, the Garfagnana Consortium with its spelt and the Caseificio Bertagni with its homemade cheese, just to name a few. Many representatives from beyond the Serchio Valley will also be present with their stands such as a company from Altopascio with essential oils, producers of boiled wool from the Casentino, a mini atelier from Rimini known for its soaps shaped like sweets. That’s not all, again from Rimini, an exhibitor will be present with very particular decorative items, from Mantova, hats, from Mondovì products from an organic farm.
A traveling celebration through the streets of the Living Mountain between arts and crafts stands (in The Piazzetta), food and wine stands (on The Terrace “with a view”), wine tasting (in The Cantinetta), and art exhibitions (in the Park’s square). There are really lots of things to do and something for everyone: horseback riding for animal lovers, 4x4 tours and enduro for those in search of an adrenaline rush, activities for families, labs and games for the younger guests. There will be a children’s area where parents may leave the kids to play and only for the youngsters, upon request, an evening excursion.
There is more, because many are the events on the Estate. For jazz lovers, or just for those who appreciate good music, on Saturday night why not join everyone for the Cocktail Hour in Piazzetta accompanied by the Barga Jazz musicians. “Autumn without Return” is an event which will take place on Sunday. It is dedicated to all those who migrated from the Serchio Valley to find fortune in other countries. At The Croce, during the blessing ceremony in the presence of the city’s officials, a commemorative plaque will be donated. This initiative is promoted in collaboration with the Lucchesi in the World Association and the participation of the Giovanni Pascoli and Paolo Cresci Foundations. This events wants to remember, better yet, does not want to forget, a phenomenon that characterizes our territory since the war, its people and their stories.
Last but not least, there are great expectations for Saturday’s event “Fameadarte”. It is a performance with dinner organized by the well-known artist, Andrea Salvetti. An evening rich in small and subtle distinctions – “contaminations” , to use the artist’s words - , where the pleasure begins with the expectations followed by a rapid succession of emotions which will gratify all your senses.
