The Ciocco Rally

Comments by Valerio Barsella

The 37th edition of the Ciocco and Serchio Valley Rally will go down in history for having seen, for the first time, a rally car powered by  LPG  - a new frontier of sports car technology  - and win.  This is truly an accomplishment - adds  enthusiastically Valerio Barsella (CioccoRally – Organization Sport Events) -, this is the first time, worldwide, that a gas powered car is used in a rally”.

A week after the race, Valerio Barsella, spokesman for the event organizers, comments the victory of a Ford Fiesta R5 in an Italian road race that has made history and adds: “This first round of the Italian Rally Championship, 16 special stages in all, has embraced the Lucca territory, from the sea to the mountains.  The starting line was crossed, once again, from the exclusive location of Forte dei Marmi and during the two days the race moved to the Mediavalle and Garfagnana and finally at the Porta Ariostesca of Castenuovo to the waiving of the checkered flag”.

On the first step of the podium stood the crew from Treviso, Giandomenico Basso and Mitia Dotta, in second place the incumbent Italian champion Umberto Scandola (Skoda Fabia S2000) and in third place the world debute of the Peugeot 208 T16 driven by the hometown idol Paolo Andreucci.

“The crews, eighty in all, have always raced on streets crowded with spectators.  The event - concluded Barsella whose mind was on the next round of a season that will conclude in Verona in October - has lived up to our expectations confirming all its appeal!”.
