From Holy Thursday to Easter Monday, here are the Serchio Valley appointments.

Two of the most evocative religious events will take place on
Holy Thursday and Good Friday.

On Holy Thursday, in Castiglione di Garfagnana, the traditional “Procession  de’ Crocioni” will take place.

After Holy Mass the faithful, in procession, follow a man with his face covered representative of the figure of Christ, that with big chains on his ankles and burdened with a heavy wooden cross, walks through the village streets, often with bleeding feet.  None, except the prior of the local Confraternity, must know the identity of the penitent.

On Good Friday in the village of Vagli Sotto, after 9 years, the “Passione di Cristo” is back:  more than 100 people dressed in period costume will
be featured in a traveling, spectacular historical re-enactment.

Monday, April 6th

Lunch on the lake in Pontecosi on Easter Monday, in Castelnuovo Garfagnana street markets in Piazza Umberto I, self-guided visits to the monuments and educational workshops at the Fortezza di Mont’Alfonso
(a stream train will depart from Viareggio just for this occasion), fun, games and relax at the sport facilities of Gallicano.

April 7, 8 and 9

More prayer time in Barga with a series of “La Gioia della Pasqua” meetings, three days of reflection through sacred art, organized in the
Saint Elizabeth Conservatory by the Pastoral Unit of Barga and the Saint Elizabeth Conservatory Foundation together with the Community of Jesus.
