The Living Mountain is a story of families and traditions, a place created and regenerated for the pleasure of those who live, work, and stay at the Il Ciocco.
The Il Ciocco mountain has always been a place full of life. As you move through it you will notice that there isn’t a place where the knowing hand of man hasn’t left a trace: chestnut groves, planted for the use of their fruits and wood; terracing, for vine and olive cultivations; the ruins of “metati” (small buildings used for drying chestnuts) and small villages with stories of love for the land and migration…
Up high on the mountain, dominating the park, is the old elementary school which echoes of real lives and the yearning to grow up. At the time, someone patiently collected the inheritance of the past centuries in order to keep it alive and pass it on to the future generations.
This is the Il Ciocco mountain, that has always lived and will continue to live on.
The Living Mountain stretches between the Municipality of Barga and that of Fosciandora, on the border between the middle and high Serchio Valley. The countryside is shaped by the Serchio River bestowing different feature to the Apuan side on the right bank and Apennine side on the left. The Mountain depicts a territory so varied to leave you breathless. The Il Ciocco Park’s elevation reaches 1273 meters, the peak of the Uccelliera Mountain.
