World Chess Championship

The legendary match between the two Soviet chess giants Viktor Korčnoj and Tigran Petrosjan, won by the latter, was held in the Ciocco. Nicknamed ‘Iron Tigran’ because of his style, centred around an almost impenetrable defence, Petrosjan was world champion from 1963 to 1969. ‘Terrible Viktor’ was one of the longest-lasting and most loved players, famous for his imaginative style and adventurous biography.
